Daojuan Wang’s paper is titled “Springboarding from Where to Where? Path-breaking Change through Strategic Asset Acquisitions by Chinese MNEs” and is co-authored by Juan Wu and Dirk Morschett. The paper identifies four different springboard trajectories used by Chinese MNEs, which are different from a generic springboard path as proposed in the springboard view.
The study extends the springboard view by exploring the heterogeneities and dynamic nature of the springboard process and contextualizing it from a strategic angle. Four distinct springboard trajectories from four initial strategy types to three post-springboard types are revealed.
By putting strategic assets into the context of strategic intent and path-breaking change, the paper sheds light on their critical role in building emerging market multinational enterprises globally. Meanwhile, the paper reveals a common progressive and additive value-adding asset-bundling mechanism that enables the springboard.
The study is based on a longitudinal multiple case studies of cross-border strategic asset acquisitions by ten Chinese multinational enterprises.
Daojuan Wang and her co-authors received the award at the 48th European International Business Academy (EIBA) Conference which took place December 8-10, 2022, in Oslo, Norway.
The conference is organised by setting up 14 tracks with different topics. For each track the best paper is selected under double-blind review and chair’s selection.
The paper by Daojuan Wang and her co-authors was in Track 8 which was about emerging markets.
